P.E. and Sport
At Nether Alderley there is a wealth of opportunity for children to engage in sports and we proactively encourage our children to live fit and healthy lifestyles.
Specialist sports teachers and coaches enhance the expertise of our own teaching staff to enrich our provision of P.E. in weekly lessons. We employ a part-time PE specialist (Mr Draper) who works with every class and we add to that by bringing in a range of specialist teachers and coaches (dance, tennis, rugby, golf, football and netball) during the year.
A diverse range of extra-curricular activities are provided all year round. These include netball, football, multi-sports, cricket, rounders, athletics and table tennis.
Our Sports Captains, Kitty and Josh work closely with Mr Draper to plan and organise a range of enjoyable and competitive "intra" activities during the school year. In these events our children represent their houses (Beacons,Eagles, Knights and Wizards) and compete to earn the right for their house-colour-ribbon to be tied on the house cup. Recent "intra" events include basketball, netball, rugby, football and athletics.
Over the course of the year, children from a wide age-range are selected to play in many competitive fixtures against other schools. We join in organised leagues and tournaments from both the Wilmslow and Fallibroome cluster of primary schools.
Children who enjoy competitive sport have the opportunity to join our teams from an early age and benefit from a very generous provision of opportunity.
Despite being the smallest school in our clusters, we often "box above our weight" and have brought home numerous trophies in recent years. In 2009, Nether Alderley reached the Cheshire county finals in netball and also basketball, in which we were crowned county champions.
In order to inspire our pupils we go that extra yard, in recent years our children have received visits from ex Manchester City and England footballer Paul Lake and team GB Olympic hockey player Kerry Williams.
In 2013 a delegation of officials from Manchester City FC brought in the Premier league trophy and community shield and all our children enjoyed a talk from City president Bernard Halford and also a photo opportunity with the cups!
In 2014 our year 3 and 4 children received coaching from Sale Sharks Rugby Club and got to meet first team players Joe Ford and Charlie Ingall.
